(Tucson, AZ) Access Tucson, in partnership with the Arizona Daily Star and the Clean Elections Commission, will televise debates from all contested state and legislative races affecting Pima County in 2006 and two debates for candidates running for Congressional District Eight. This represents the most comprehensive television coverage of primary election debates in Southern Arizona.

Access Tucson and the Arizona Daily Star are sponsoring two debates for the contest garnering the most attention locally, that for Congressional District Eight. The Democratic and Republican contenders will each face off in events hosted by Pima Community College later this month. Those debates will each be replayed several times on Access Tucson from September 2-9, 2006. For specific dates and times visit http://accesstucson.org.

“We are very pleased to partner with the Arizona Daily Star for these debates,” said Sam Behrend, Executive Director of Access Tucson. “It can be difficult for people to attend the actual events and learn important information about the people who will be making decisions affecting our future. We wanted to give everyone a chance to see and hear the candidates and become more informed voters.”

Debates between candidates running for other important elective offices will be aired through September 11, 2006. Access Tucson, in partnership with the Clean Elections Commission, is showing debates for the contested races for Governor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and State Mine Inspector. Viewers will also see debates between candidates vying for Arizona House seats in Districts 23, 25, 26, and 28 and candidates running for Arizona Senate seats in Districts 26 and 28. The dates and times of these debates can also be found at http://accesstucson.org.

Access Tucson operates three channels on the Cox Communications (97, 98 and 99) and Comcast (72, 73, and 74) cable systems. Please call 624-9833 or visit http://accesstucson.org for further information.
