PLEASE URGE VETO OF COX BILL - 520-628-6580
Posted March 21st, 2007 by vicki in News, Front Page, What's on TV, About UsLast night the Mayor and City Council voted 7-0 to deny the formal renewal proposal from Cox Communication while at the same time instructing the City staff to continue negotiating informally in the hopes that an agreement can be struck that would address the needs of our community.
Unfortunately, the Cox sponsored Arizona legislation HB2069 passed the House, is now out Senate committees and is ready to go to the Senate floor where it will probably pass. This bill would completely undermine and make moot the good faith negotiations by the City of Tucson and would result in the loss of most of the public, education and government channels and millions of dollars of revenue which goes to the City to support these channels.
This will be your last and best chance to defeat this special interest legislation by letting the Governor know that you want her to veto the bill. A quick 30 second phone call is all it will take to register your comments at her Tucson office.
Please call 628-6580 right now and let the Governor’s staff know that you want her to veto HB2069 the cable bill if necessary. Simply, there is absolutely no legitimate public policy reason for the State to provide this upper hand to Cox in their negotiations in Tucson. This is the only effect of HB2069 and it is wrong!
Last year the Governor did not veto the cable bill because she believed that the City of Tucson was not fighting it. This year the City is fighting very hard against this bill and for your rights. Pima College and all of the Tucson area school districts are also opposing this bill. It must be defeated.
Please call the Governor’s office right now at 628-6580. Or if you would rather email, send your message to Kristin Almquist, the director of the Governor’s Southern Arizona office at kalmquist@az.gov.
Thanks!
