Final Cut Pro - Cool Tool…
Posted July 13th, 2007 by lisa in News, Front Page, ClassesAccess Tucson offers advanced training in Final Cut Pro, Apple’s high-end non-linear video editing program. FCP is a standard for many broadcast, educational and independent media producers. Access Tucson uses both Final Cut Express and Pro—Express is the foundation for Pro and is part of the Digital Field Production training. FCE is prerequisite for FCP. Both are amazing tools for the post production process.
Lauren Johnson has spent quite a few hours in the FCP suite upstairs to create Talk Tools, soon to be airing on the Access Tucson channels.
Talk Tools is an instructional, demonstrative video that provides oral motor therapy techniques to strengthen the muscles of the jaw for improving speech clarity. This program was developed by Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson (Lauren’s mother) to help parents and therapists who have children and clients who have impaired speech.
Lauren has a background in broadcast journalism and identified Access Tucson as having the resources she needed and took advantage of “the awesome opportunity.” After taking the Digital Field Production, Studio Production and Final Cut Pro classes, she had everything she needed to create a professional production.

“You get to talk to people who really know this stuff, ask questions and apply it to what you need personally. The Multi-Cam feature is the coolest aspect of using Final Cut Pro and was just what I needed for this production.”
Access Tucson staff member, Eric Peery, spends a lot of time in the Media Lab and the Final Cut Pro Suites. Eric has received Apple FCP end user certification.

“Whatever you can imagine—you can do.” Peery simply states. “You can manipulate 1 frame of video that corresponds to 100 “frames” of audio. I once spent 3 days building a 4 second effect.” It was an effect for a slasher film clip as part of his Celluloid Fever movie review program. “It was so much fun!” But then, that’s Eric.
Lauren adds, “It is a free service, but you are treated like a part of the production staff—everyone says ‘Hi’ to me when I come in.” The hardest parts? Hypothermia for one–Access Tucson’s edit suites are cool places to be anytime of the year—and “learning all the short cuts and trying to create a really good product.”
