Pima County Cable License Renewal Public Hearing
Posted September 19th, 2007 by daniela in News, Front Page, About UsFriends of Access Tucson:
We have recently learned that Pima County is in negotiations with both Cox and Comcast for a renewal of their cable licenses. This covers the service area of unincorporated Pima County and does not include Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana or Sahuarita but does include suburban Tucson and Green Valley. A citizens advisory committee has been established and a public hearing has been scheduled for this coming Tuesday, September 25th at 4:45-7:00 p.m This hearing will take place in the Main Library lower level meeting room. In conversations with the County, we have learned that negotiations with Cox and Comcast have been taking place but so far there does not appear to be any consideration for how Access Tucson would be involved in providing services to Pima County residents in the future.
If you or your group or organization believe that it would be beneficial to Pima County for Access Tucson to provide services in the County then you should consider attending this meeting and letting County staff and the citizen advisory committee know why you find these services beneficial. If there is no provision for these services then the public access channels on Cox and Comcast in the County could go away and also residents who do not live or work within the Tucson city limits may no longer be eligible to be members of Access Tucson or use its facilities and services.
Please contact me with any questions you may have about this.
